May 1 (Bloomberg) -- The Federal government says Chemical maker Kerr-McGee Corp. polluted more that 2,772 sites in the U.S. and is suing for $25 billion in clean-up costs and compensation for those affected. Problem is, Kerr-McGee no longer exists; it disappeared in a spinoff, a merger with Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and a bankruptcy. The U.S. says Anadarko is responsible for past liabilities and will attempt to prove it at trial this May, little consolation for small-town residents affected by the toxins. The story is featured in the June issue of Bloomberg Markets magazine. (Source: Bloomberg)
